Oh I love asks like this; the arrogant argument to make you lose hope in your ship! Goody-good!
Well, instead of making this about YOU and your try to kick the Bellarkers, let’s look at this from a different perspective, that even your narrow minded head might understand.
Clexa is happening. There’s absolutely no doubt about that. Even though there’s Clexa now, who knows what might happen in the future. This show could go on for 5, 6 or even 10 seasons. Please tell me about one single tv-show that has kept the same couple for more than a couple of seasons? And if you can find one, tell me if there was another person involved, another love interest that as good as half the audience passionately loved? Do you get how unbelievably boring that would be for the audience? See, this thing the writers are doing here is pleasing the audience. Of course they know that Bellarkers are not a happy bunch right now but it doesn’t mean that they will not address the issue later.
Bob and Eliza has got amazing chemistry on screen, and even if it wasn’t intentional to make it romantic, it turned out that way and the audience noticed. With the biggest ship war ever going on, do you honestly think that Jason and his team wouldn’t address Bellarke in the future at all? That they would completely neglect what a huge amount of the fans want? If answering yes to this question, than you are absolutely a dumbass.
Bellarke will happen! In what way, how long or when, only JRoth knows (or maybe even he doesn’t know). But saying that it will never happen is as ignorant as some of these dumbass shippers on here who tries to kick other ships down so their insecurities about their ship is sated. Oops, I hope I didn’t offend you!
I’m sorry, I’m assuming you didn’t want this whole long speech about why it eventually will happen. I’m sure you wanted a frustrated argument back about staying away from my blog and why the fuck are you a coward for being an anon etc. On the contrary I welcome you to write a rational argument back about why you don’t think Bellarke will happen. Rule number 1: it has to be rational. Rule number 2: make it long, I love a decent read. Number 3: be an arrogant asshole all you want but be rational. Rule number 4: rational.
Cool? Cool.
I usually don’t respond to posts I find while going through the Bellarke tag (just to see what’s actually going on in your fandom) but since you challenged us to write a rational, long argument to why we think Bellarke won’t happen, why not?
But first a side note: why do we have to be rational but you don’t? “If you have this opinion you’re absolutely a dumbass” definitely doesn’t make a rational post. You insult people but expect them to write rational posts in response? Seriously?
Let’s get to the rational arguments to why Bellarke (probably) won’t happen.
Firstly Bob and Eliza’s “amazing chemistry on screen” wasn’t meant to be romantic (the writers said so) and it didn’t turn out to be romantic as well. It can still be seen as platonic and was most definitely intended to be platonic. Some of the audience just can’t see it as platonic because we are not used to seeing close platonic m/f friendships that stay that way. They almost always turn out to be romantic. If you can’t see how the Bellarke scenes could ever be platonic that’s because of heteronormativity. Because you’re used to only seeing stuff like this in a romantic context. Doesn’t mean that it has to be romantic though.
You probably know that Jason, the writers and the cast were often not really happy about Bellarke questions. If they really intended Bellarke to become romantic at some point or already wrote it as romantic, why should they react in such a way? They are so rude to Bellarke shippers because they don’t like how many of them can’t see the platonic relationship they created as the platonic relationship it is. Because some Bellarke shippers demand them to write something they never intended to write. They are frustrated because many people care more about the stuff they didn’t write than about the stuff they did write.
Good writers don’t care about ships. Jason has said again and again that he doesn’t ship. He just wants to tell a good story and that story sometimes involves relationships. If people like what he writes he’s happy and if they don’t he’s not, but he won’t just write what the people want to see. If he did Bellamy wouldn’t have done all the things he did. If he did Clexa would not be happening right now. He would never change the story just to please the shippers.
Many writer might do this. Cater to the fans. I’ve seen a lot of shows go downhill because the writers just wanted to make as much money as possible and had very strange ideas about how to attract more viewers. The 100 went a very different path so far though. They try to do things differently then other shows, that’s why Bellarke hasn’t happened (although it’s in the books) but Clexa has. Most writers would never take the risk of making their lead character queer and giving her a female love interest, yet alone introduce other queer characters. Most just do queerbaiting to be on the save side and not loose the homophobic viewers. Jason has taken that risk though and it has paid of. The critics love it and the show has gained a lot of viewers. Why should he start taking the same roads as other shows now? The lead female and the lead male character end up together so often and it would be so predictable, I don’t think it has any appeal to Jason at all.
Of course Clarke and Lexa won’t be together happily ever after, that just wouldn’t make an interesting story. Personally I think they will break up after a season or two (because it’s too complicated), be apart for a few seasons in which Clarke will probably find another love interest that doesn’t last for long and won’t be Bellamy (but probably another man) and in the end be with Lexa again (after the circumstances that prevented them from being together change). But that’s just my personal prediction. Generally: Just because Clexa won’t be happening forever doesn’t mean Bellarke has to happen.
Canonically Bellarke is on the same page as Princess Mechanic. They are both close platonic friendships that some interpret as romantic. Both could theoretically happen but from what we’ve seen and what the writers told us it’s just not very likely. You should learn from the Princess Mechanic shippers that you can ship something that’s not canon without having to scream “it will happen though!” at every opportunity. Just because you’re used to your popular m/f ships happening doesn’t mean that Bellarke will.
If you still think I’m a “dumbass” for thinking that Jason won’t cater to you so be it. At least I’m able to write rational posts and not insult people with a different opinion.
First of all, thank you for actually being decent! It’s good to see that people still know how to.
Okay, on with the case…
Let’s start with the dumbass comment. What I wrote is that if you don’t aknowledge that Jason and his team has to address Bellarke in the future then you are a dumbass! What I get from the Bellarke storyline is that it is not happening right now but for me it’s clear that Bellamy has feelings for Clarke whereas Clarke is not thinking about him in that way. Bellamy as a character is not a person who keeps his mouth shut. He also cares a lot about Clarke (which has been shown in this season when he tried to save Clarke). Then came the whole handcuff scandal and both are angry and hurt by each other. How in the world could they ever continue this show without these issues being addressed? In some way or another they have to give the matter closure and move on.
I also wrote “But saying that [Bellarke] is never gonna happen is as ignorant as some of these dumbass shippers on here who tries to kick other ships down…”. That goes for every single ship war out there, and in this case especially for the Bellarke fandom and Clexa fandom. We both agree that there are assholes on both sides who are extremely narrow minded and would do anything to hurt the other fandom. I’m so sick and tired of childish comments who just exists to rile you up. There’s a difference between saying “I definitely don’t agree with you about Bellarke ever happening” (such as you’ve written) and the comment I got from the anon. It’s all about the way you put your words.
Now this right here pisses me off because this is so typical for arguments on Tumblr; Absolutely nowhere in my argument did I even imply that “If you have this opinion you’re absolutely a dumbass” as you put it. Nowhere in my argument did I write that Clexa shippers are dumbasses for loving their ship because I love Bellarke and that’s the my opinion aka the right opinion. Those are your words and your interpretation of what I wrote. Yes, you’re a dumbass if you’re an asshole about a ship you don’t like and have absolutely nothing relevant to say. Yes, you’re a dumbass if you don’t understand that eventually Bellarke has to work out their issues for the storyline to continue. Do you disagree with me?
I agree with you that Bellarke’s relationship is definitely platonic right now but as I wrote above I still believe that Bellamy has got stronger feelings for Clarke and she doesn’t reciprocate those feelings. This has got nothing to do with heteronormativity and what I’m used to seeing when I watch tv-shows and movies but what I and other fans see when we see Bob’s acting with Eliza. They are good friends IRL and as with all good friends you have chemistry. I’m definitely not saying that I can’t see that they have a platonic relationship, but if there are hints of Bellamy’s feelings for Clarke throughout the series; the looks he’s giving her (when they were alone in the woods and she was sleeping), the small touches (when they were practicing shooting with the guns in the bunker) and of course how desperate he was to get her back this season. With that being said, I also believe that Clarke knows to an extent how much Bellamy feels for her, but she has proven on several occasions (not just with Bellamy) that she is an excellent manipulator and I feel like she uses this against him.
As for the writers absolutely hating the Bellarke questions: Wouldn’t you after thousands of thousands of frustrating messages about “when is this gonna happen?!?! I’m gonna stop watching if you don’t give me Bellarke!!”? Having passionate fans is both a curse and a blessing and I think that since the shipping questions are always the ones taking over Q&A’s, they will eventually get pissed off and tired of the fan’s focus. JRoth has said on several occasions that this is not a show that are meant to be a romantic teen drama. He wants the fans to look beyond that and see the politics in how a dystopian world would be and the impact it has on the people. Of course he’s gonna get pissed when he’s trying to show the audience an excellent show that has really grown into something dark and thought provoking, and all people can focus on is “who’s Clarke ending up with?!”.
You say that “good writers don’t care about ships” and I agree with you. Good writers cares about their audience because in the end those are the ones who keeps the show alive. Yes, he made Bellamy an asshole. Yes, he made Clexa happen. Jason and his team are excellent writers and they are fantastic at keeping the character development new and shocking. They made Bellamy an asshole because they knew they would get reactions from the audience. They made Clexa happen because they definitely knew how much of a reaction that would give. No, the writers and Jason probably doesn’t care about ships but they do care about their audience. They aknowledge that there are so many fans out there who want to see more of Bellarke and I believe that eventually they will give us exactly that, because the audience matter.
I personally have absolutely nothing against Clexa at all, but I think it is very ignorant to think that Bellarke will not happen. As I wrote in my previous argument “…In what way, how long or when, only JRoth knows…” and I stand by that. You wrote “you can ship something that’s not canon without having to scream ‘it will happen though!’” and yes of course you can but of course we’re not gonna. We’re passionate about our ship, just as you are, and frankly I find this statement a bit rude. Am I not allowed to say that I believe it will happen because it bothers/offends you? Aren’t I and other Bellarkers free to scream it from the top of our lungs on Tumblr because we all believe it will happen? I thought you said that “at least I’m able to write rational posts and not insult people with a different opinion”. Hm.
